Davyhulme Primary School Turns 80!

Today, 1st May 2020, Davyhulme Primary School officially turns 80 Years old! 

 

The original school (just the Junior building) opened 1st May 1940 under the clouds of World War II. The school's first Headmaster, Mr. Edgar Shaw, wrote in his logbook: 

 

Davyhulme Council Junior and Infants School

 

"Today, I, Edgar Shaw, opened this new school - Davyhulme Council School- as its first Headmaster. 

School assembled at 9.00am with a roll of 192, and a staff of Headmaster and four assistant female teachers. 

The initial age range has been limited to the years 5-8 inclusive (To August 1st). 

The organisation at presents is as follows:- 

Miss Adams - Reception Class (31 on roll)

Miss Smith - Ages 5 & 6 (36 on roll)

Miss Swarbrick - Ages 6 & 7 (42 on roll) 

Miss Arstall- Ages 7 (41 on roll) 

Mr. Shaw - Ages 8 (42 on roll) 

 

An outbreak of German Measles has temporarily affected the roll. "

 

As a school, we plan on celebrating this momentous occasion during the new academic year 2020-2021. Keep a lookout for the wonderful events we have planned for the children and the local community.
