In today’s French lesson we started by completing an activity on the board guessing the correct month. Afterwards, some pupils were chosen to read their own questions to the class. Next, we continued learning about ‘Ma premiere histoire de France’ par Robert Pince. In this book there is a number of different facts about France, including facts about ‘Les Gaulois’, who were defeated by the Romans, ‘Les Gallo-Romains’, and ‘Les Francs’. The Franks’ king, ‘Clovis’, was a very needy king who wanted to be popular. He changed his religion to Catholic and was even baptised so that people would like him. We will continue reading about this next week.
We then looked at Les Defis Savoirs: Can I read aloud syllables, words and sentences containing the determiners les, mes, des, tes, and ses? Can I deepen my understanding of pronouns?
After, Madame Underwood introduced la classe to something new - how to present ourselves in French (Je me presente). After saying the French date we then practised a new authentic French finger rhyme ‘Une Poule Sur Un Mur’.

In today’s lesson we started off by revising some of the history of France. We were reminded about ‘les hommes prehistoriques’, the cavemen who first painted on the cave walls and ‘Les Gaulois’ who used iron to make weapons and ploughs and produced wine which was sold all over Europe. They also built many cities but didn’t know how to write.
Next, we learnt about ‘Les Gallo-Romains’ who defeated the Gauls, led by Julius Caesar. They built new cities with lots of monuments, bridges and aqueducts [transporting water]. After ‘Les Gallo-Romains’ came ‘Les Francs’. They were chased out of their own country by the hun knights. They moved into the north of the country. Their king, ‘Clovis’, was one of the first kings. He decided to become Catholic and along with himself, made 5,000 of his warriors get baptised. He expanded the size of his kingdom which was then called the kingdom of France. After ‘Clovis’, came ‘Charlemagne’.
We then went through Les Defis Savoirs which are the learning challenges: Can I read aloud syllables, words and sentences containing the determiners les, mes, des, tes and ses? Can I deepen my understanding of pronouns? Can I use a speaking and writing frame to create longer spoken and written sentences?
This was followed by the activity ‘Je me presente’ which is talking about yourself. Comment t’appelles-tu? Je m’appelle… Ou habites-tu? J’habite a ...en Angleterre. Quel age as-tu? Jai… ans. Quelle est la date de ton anniversaire? Mon anniversaire c’est en…! Then Haris, Kady and Ciara said the date for today, tomorrow and yesterday in French: la date aujourd’hui c’est… Hier c’etait… Demain ce sera… We then sang bon anniversaire to Inaya and Annie. After that we learnt how to say I go, you go, she goes, he goes and they go in French. We will be using this verb with the preposition ‘a’ next week.

In today’s French lesson we started off by completing the activity on the board (identifying certain months of the year from sentences that were written in French). Next, we listened to some of the French book ‘Ma Premiere Histoire de France’. This week we learnt about Les Gallo-Romains and their buildings of roads and aqueducts. We also learnt about the Franks, who came from another country being driven out of their own country by les cavaliers. They settled in the north of France and there, their king, ‘Clovis’, became a Catholic and had himself baptised along with 5,000 of his soldiers, just to be popular!
After that, we practised a short presentation about ourselves including saying were we lived, the month of our birthday, our names, our ages and whether or not we had any brothers or sisters. We next revisited an authentic French finger rhyme ‘Une poule sur un mur’.
We then looked at our learning challenges: can I read aloud syllables, words and sentences containing various determiners? Can I use a speaking and writing frame to create longer spoken sentences? Can I deepen my understanding of pronouns? The pronouns we looked at were: je vais (I go/I am going), tu va (you go/you are going), il va (he goes/he is going), elle va (she goes/she is going), ils vont (they go/they are going – masculine plural and elles vont (they go/they are going – feminine plural).

In today’s lesson we began by revising some of the history of France. We looked at prehistoric times when men made tools out of wood, flint and bone and when, even though they could not write, they were able to paint on the cave walls. We learnt about Les Gaulois who built magnificent cities but they still did not know how to write! The Romans then came and defeated the Gauls with the country then under the rule of l’Empire Romain. The Romans improved the cities; building roads, monuments and bridges. Les Francs, who were forced out of their own country, came to live in the north of Gaul. Their king was called Clovis, who decided to be baptised along with all of his warriors.
Next, we looked at Les Defis Savoirs. Numero un: can I read aloud syllables, words and sentences containing the determiners les, mes, des, tes and ses? Numero deux: can I deepen my understanding of pronouns? Numero trois: can I use a speaking and writing frame to create longer spoken sentences?
After that, we went on to Je me presente where we had to introduce ourselves in French. Kady, Haris and Ciara then said the date for today, yesterday and tomorrow in French. We sang bon anniversaire to Annie and Inaya. Finally, we showed our traffic light cards and nearly everyone held up the green card!
