Fabulous Friday French!

5th Feb 2018

vendredi 19 janvier 2018

This week in French lessons we have been looking at some pictures of the famous chateau at Versailles, France.  We were also listening to a French song ‘Cezanne Peint’.  We have been asking each other different questions, for example Comment t’appelles-tu? (What is your name?).  After that, we were saying the dates in French for today, tomorrow and yesterday.  We listened to an authentic French story ‘Ma Culotte’.  It was about a wolf, a lamb and a pair of shorts!

Then we matched up the French towns that rhymed with an animal, for example, L’abeille va a Marseille.  After finishing this activity with our partners, we had volunteers to stand up and choose different animals and their partner stood up with them and would try to choose the town that rhymed with the animal.

After finishing the rhyming activity, we performed the traditional French finger rhyme ‘Les Saisons’ about leaves and how they are growing through the seasons.

We started off the French lesson by looking at some pictures of the chateau at Versailles, France, whilst listening to a French song ‘Cezanne Peint’ by the French singer, France Gall.  We then said hello in French to our teacher, Madame Underwood, and our teaching assistant, Monsieur Burke.  After that, we looked at our French learning challenges (les Defis Savoirs).  We said if we liked something or not in French, for example, certain colours, animals or vegetables.  Kristian said the date for today in French and Theo said what the date for tomorrow would be and Emma read out yesterday’s date.

We then read a traditional French story ‘Ma Culotte’ par (by) Alan Mets.  After that, Lily and Ameera read aloud to the rest of the class, the authentic French story ‘Qui conduit?’ par Leo Timmers. They both did brilliantly!  We then revised how to use a preposition in French.  To finish off the lesson, we used our traffic light cards to show Madame Underwood how we felt about our learning.  I really enjoy French lessons because we learn a lot.

Today we started our French lesson with an activity on the board where we had to find out quel animal? (which animal?) based on the clues on the board.  After that, we watched a slideshow on the French chateau at Versailles.  The song we listened to was ‘Cezanne Peint’ - a song dedicated to Paul Cezanne, who was a very famous French painter.

Next, using vegetables, colours and/or animals, we asked each other the following question - aimes-tu? - meaning do you like?  After we had finished that, we read the traditional French storybook ‘Ma Culotte’.  The book was about a wolf and his red shorts!  This book taught us a lot about our cognates and semi-cognates.  We then worked on our rhyming skills, for example, L’abeille va a Marseille.  After doing the activity with our partners, volunteers were picked to ask each other the questions.  To finish off the lesson, we performed the traditional French finger rhyme about the seasons ‘Les Saisons’.

When we came in to our lesson, we watched a slideshow with pictures of the French chateau at Versailles.  The music we listened to was called ‘Cezanne Peint’ by the French singer, France Gall.  We then looked at our learning challenges (Les Defis Savoirs).  Next, we were asking questions to our classmates about whether they liked certain animals or not.  Kristian read out today’s date in French, Theo read out tomorrow’s date and Emma read out yesterday’s date.

After that, we read an authentic French story ‘Ma Culotte’ par (by) Alan Mets.  In this book there is a wolf who is wearing red shorts (culotte rouge).  The wolf captures a lamb (un gigot), who eats his shorts but offers to knit him a new pair if he lets him go!  The wolf agrees.

After that Lily-May and Ameera read a book called ‘Qui Conduit?’ par Leo Timmers.  Some of the children then had the chance to use prepositions in French.

We then said how we felt about our learning challenges using our traffic light cards.  To finish off, we said goodbye our teacher, Madame Underwood and our teaching assistant Monsieur Burke, in French.
