Fabulous Friday French!

28th Nov 2017

vendredi 24 novembre 2017

We started the lesson by looking at pictures of the French chateau at Chambord whilst listening to the French song ‘Samba Mambo’ by the famous French singer ‘France Gall’.  We also looked at the colours of the French flag.  Next, we learnt how to say bigger numbers to 100 in French.  We then considered our learning challenges. After that, we greeted other people in French, introducing ourselves to our partners.  Isobel and myself volunteered to demonstrate asking each other questions, to the rest of the class.  Emma also volunteered and she did very well!  We then performed a traditional French finger rhyme ‘Monsieur Pouce’.  Ameera read a book aloud to the class - ‘L’automne arrive’ by Altan.  She read it very well.

We then learnt how to say some vegetables in French: les carottes (the carrots), les tomates (the tomatoes) and les olives (the olives).  We learnt how to ask each other whether or not we liked certain vegetables.  Finally, we used our traffic light cards to show how we felt about our learning.  I like French lessons because we learn a lot.  It is great having Mrs Underwood as a French teacher because she makes French fun!

We started our French lesson by watching a slideshow about the French chateau at Chambord whilst listening to a piece of French music, ‘Samba Mambo’.  Then, we looked at the colours of the French flag and recalled the name of the music.  Next, we looked at bigger numbers to 100 in French - some people guessed them correctly. After that, we considered our three learning challenges.  We asked our partners various questions; Haris and Isobel went up to the front of the class and asked each other questions.  Haris went first, asking how old Isobel was.   She replied, “J’ai onze ans.” This means ‘I am 11 years old’. Madame Underwood asked if anyone had a birthday today but sadly nobody did!  Lily-Mae, Luka, Josh and Lily performed a traditional French finger rhyme ‘Monsieur Pouce’ to the rest of the class.  Next, Ameera read a French storybook called ‘L’automne arrive’ and I have to say she was very good at reading the whole book in French!  Madame Underwood recorded her and will be putting it on the school website.

We then learnt how to say some vegetables in French and we had to say the plural version as well and say what it meant in English.  Emma said the tomatoes in French and Alex said what it meant in English.  Madame Underwood asked us whether we liked that type of food in French.  Holly does not like olives!  We were reminded that in French you cannot have 2 vowels next to each other in adjacent words.  Finally, we returned to our learning challenges and held up our coloured cards: green means that I think that I have achieved the learning challenge; yellow means that I feel that I am fairly confident that I have achieved the learning challenge but I feel that I need to practise more and red means that I feel that I am not sure whether I have achieved the learning challenge and I feel that I definitely need to practise more.  We then said ‘au revoir’ to Madame Underwood and Monsieur Burke.  It is great having Mrs Underwood as she is a great teacher!
